体坛英语新闻:China wins women's 3,000m relay gold at Short Track Worlds
SHANGHAI, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Hosts China claimed the women's 3,000-meter relay gold at the ISU Short Track Speedskating Worlds here on Sunday.
The Chinese foursome, Li Jianrou, Fan Kexin, Liu Qiuhong and Kong Xue, beat the United States and South Korea to clinch the gold in four minutes and 16.303 seconds.
The relay started with China in the lead but the United States overtook the position with only five laps to go.
Kong Xue then surpassed the American skater with a strong spurt and helped China to win the title. South Korea took the silver in 4:17.223, while the United States was the third in 4:17.240.
Talking about the overtaking, Kong said: "I tried my best to surpass her and I managed it. We are a team and to win the gold medal is our goal."
Li Jianrou, who won the all-around title earlier Sunday, said winning the relay made her happier than winning individual titles.
"I felt excited," she said. "The relay gold is the most important one for our team. And winning it is the happiest thing."
However, in the men's 5,000m relay, China failed to reach the final.
Canada clocked the fastest time in 6:42.570, edging runners-up the Netherlands by 0.065 seconds. South Korea settled for the bronze in 6:42.629.
