体坛英语新闻:Bolton player Muamba remains "in critical condition in intensive care"

LONDON, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba "remains in a critical condition in intensive care" on Sunday at the London Chest Hospital after his collapse nearly one day ago in an FA Cup quarterfinal tie against Tottenham Hotspur.

A latest statement from the club said: "As is normal medical practice, Fabrice remains anaesthetized in intensive care and will be for at least 24 hours.

"His condition continues to be closely monitored by the cardiac specialists at this hospital."

On Saturday, the 23-year-old, also the former England Under-21 player, fell to the ground with no other players around him in the match at White Hart Lane, where he sustained a cardiac arrest and was later was admitted to the Heart Attack Center at the London Chest Hospital.

"Fabrice received prolonged resuscitation at the ground and on route to the hospital, where his heart eventually started working."

The match lasted only 41 minutes and was abandoned. The score line was 1-1 produced by Kyle Walker's header and Gareth Bale's own goal.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle added in the statement: "Fabrice's family have asked me to pass on their thanks for the many, many kind messages of support from not only Bolton fans but also fans from clubs across the country and abroad.

"All our thoughts and prayers are for Fabrice and his family at this time. The family would also like to thank the media for respecting their privacy at this time."
