COPENHAGEN, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the semifinals of the Copenhagen WTA tournament after beating Alice Cornet of France 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals here on Friday.
Top-seed Wozniacki showed her strength and forced her opponent in the defensive without ever leaving Cornet any real chance to get into the fight from the beginning of the match, held at the Farum Arena,in Copenhagen, capital of Denmark.
The first set was over in 26 minutes and things did not change much in the second set. However, Cornet challenged the current number six in the world in several well played duels but could not prevent Wozniacki winning 6-3.
It was a little more difficult for No. 3 seed Jelana Jancovic of Serbia in her fight against Estonia's Kaia Kanepi. Jankovic lost the first set 4-6 but came back and won the next two sets 6-1, 6-3.
No. 2 seed Angelique Kerber of Germany had even greater difficulties in the fight against her compatriot Mona Barthel. After winning the first set 6-2, Kerber lost the second set 6-0, but fought her way back in the third set 7-5.
Wozniacki will now meet Petra Martic in the semifinal on Saturday after the Croatian won over Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia 6- 4, 4-6, 6-3.
