体坛英语新闻:Skov becomes first Danish female paddler to qualify for Olympics
COPENHAGEN, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Mie Skov has become the first Danish female table tennis player to qualify for Olympics Games, local media reported Saturday.
The 25-year-old Skov beat Slovakia's Barbora Balazova 4-2 in the deciding qualifier, played in Luxembourg, to secure one of the 11 available spots of the London Olympics.
Skov has won the Danish table tennis championships seven times, and is ranked 90th in the world table tennis women's rankings by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
Danish men's table tennis player Michael Maze has already secured a singles spot at the summer games owing to his high ranking in the ITTF men's world list, where he is placed at No. 25.
The Sport's Confederation of Denmark and the National Olympic Committee have so far also selected the following to represent the country at the summer games:
Sara Slott Petersen (hurdles), Andreas Bube (800 meters), Stine Nielsen (rifle shooting), Anders Golding (skeet), Henriette Engel (kayak), Peter Jensen (trampoline), Lotte Meldgaard, Susanne Boidin and Tina Gramkov (match racing), and the national men's handball team.
