体坛英语新闻：Jefferson Farfan extends contract with German side Schalke 04

BERLIN, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Schalke 04 extended the contract with Peruvian international striker Jefferson Farfan until 2016, the Bundesliga club announced during the match against Berlin at home Veltins Arena on Saturday.

For a long time things indicated that Farfan would leave Schalke especially when he rejected the first contract offer. Subsequently, the club withdrew their first offer.

"We have always said that we are ready to talk. We are very, very happy that it finally worked out because we always wanted to renew the contract with Jeff," Schalke manager Horst Heldt said.

The 27-year-old Farfan joined Schalke in 2008 and has scored 24 goals in 112 official matches.

Since 2003 he is also part of the Peruvian national squad, having made43 appearances and scored 12 goals.

Schalke now sits on third position with 61 points, which assures it a direct UEFA Champions League spot.
