体坛英语新闻：Ajax has to delay title party despite win at FC Twente

THE HAGUE, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Ajax was not able to capture the Dutch title already in the 32nd Eredivisie round despite a 2-1 win at FC Twente in Enschede on Sunday.

Ajax had the upper hand in Enschede over most of the match, although Twente's Ola John hit the post in the ninth minute. After Nikolay Mihaylov brought down Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel, Ajax was rewarded a penalty. Former Twente player Theo Janssen converted the penalty.

In the final phase of the match, Twente had a strong period and Leroy Fer equalized in the 72nd minute in a rebound from a corner. A beautiful shot by Van der Wiel earned Ajax the win six minutes later.

With a win against Twente and a draw between Feyenoord and AZ, Ajax would have been crowned champions. The score in Rotterdam was 0-0 until the 54th minute, so for a while Ajax was the virtual champion. However, Otman Bakkal handed Feyenoord a 1-0 win.

Earlier on Sunday PSV beat Roda JC 3-1 in Kerkrade. The Eindhoven based side outclassed the home-team and scored through Dries Mertens and Marcelo.

Striker Sanharib Malki brought Roda back in the match, but the home-team had to continue with ten men after Roda goalkeeper Pawel Kieszek was sent off for bringing down Jetro Willems. His replacement Pawel Kieszek stopped a penalty by Jeremain Lens in the 83rd minute, but one minute later substitute Memphis Depay secured PSV' s victory.

On Saturday SC Heerenveen beat Heracles 4-2 in Almelo. Dutch top scorer Bas Dost scored two times and lifted his season's tally to 30 goals.

With two match rounds remaining, Ajax can only theoretically squander the championship. Ajax now has 70 points after 32 matches, while Feyenoord is six points behind with a by far worse goal difference.

Feyenoord (32-64) will battle for the second place, which guarantees a place in the Champions League preliminary round, with PSV (32-63), AZ (32-61), sc Heerenveen (32-61) and FC Twente (32-60).

Title holders Ajax can capture their 31st Eredivisie championship by drawing VVV-Venlo on Wednesday. If they don't succeed on Wednesday they have a second chance in the final match round on Sunday at Vitesse Arnhem.
