体坛英语新闻:Seedorf signs with Botafogo
RIO DE JANEIRO, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Former AC Milan and Real Madrid midfielder Clarence Seedorf has signed a two-year contract with Brazilian Serie A club Botafogo.
The Rio de Janeiro outfit released a statement on Saturday night confirming a deal had been struck for the 36-year-old, ending weeks of speculation about his future.
"This is the biggest contract ever signed by a foreign player in Brazil," the statement said.
Botafogo is expected to officially present the former Netherlands international to its fans next Saturday (July 7).
Seedorf, who has spent the past week training with David Beckham's LA Galaxy, ended his 10-year career with Milan in May.
He was understood to be awaiting a decision from newly promoted English Premier League club West Ham before deciding his future.
The London outfit reportedly withdrew its interest in the four-time Champions League winner last week.
Botafogo beat offers from England, China, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and the USA for Seedorf's signature.
Local media reported a key factor in Seedorf's decision was the wish of his Brazilian wife Luviana - a lifelong Botafogo supporter - to be close to her family.
