体坛英语新闻:Mexico to send 102 athletes to London Olympics
MEXICO CITY, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Mexico will go to London 2012 Olympic Games with a 102-athlete delegation together with 109 people including officials, coaches and doctors, Mexican sports authorities said Thursday.
Jaime Cadaval, chief of the Mexican Olympic delegation, said that all the athletes will be definitely registered on July 15 before the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games.
Cadaval said the first Mexican group will travel to London on July 20.
"It will be a 50-people group that will go to London in a commercial flight and afterwards there will be scaled trips," said Cadaval to the press.
Mexico's National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade) said Thursday that the Mexican athletes who win a gold medal in London 2012 Olympic Games will receive a 500,000-Mexican pesos prize (about 37,000 U.S. dollars), while the award for a silver medal will be of 250,000 pesos (18,000 dollars) and for a bronze medal will be of 125,000 pesos (10,000 dollars).
Mexican sports' authorities have rejected to give an approximate number of medals, but they have publicly said that they hope 20 athletes can finish among the best 16 of their respective sport.
In Beijing 2008, Mexico two gold medals in taekwondo and a bronze in synchronized diving.
