体坛英语新闻:Monchengladbach signs Dutch striker Luuk de Jong
BERLIN, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Borussia Monchengladbach signed Twente Enschede striker Luuk de Jong until 2017, the club said in an official statement on Wednesday.
After long back and forth, the "Foals" signed Dutch international striker Luuk de Jong, which is the most expensive transfer in club history with a transfer fee of 14 million Euros.
The 21-year-old striker has played since 2009 for FC Twente Enschede to score 39 goals in 75 matches. Since 2010 he is also part of the Dutch national team, the Elftal, where he scored one goal in seven caps.
"With Luuk de Jong we get a highly talented striker who gained, with only 21 years, a lot of international experience with FC Twente and the Dutch national team," Monchengladbach sports director Max Eberl said.
"I wanted to play in the Bundesliga, for an attractive club, and Borussia is an attractive club. I would like to develop myself further and I think the league is ideal. This is a different level than in the Netherlands," Luuk de Jong said at the official press conference.
In the past season Monchengladbach surprised the whole Bundesliga with offensively minded soccer and secured fourth position to attend the European competitions.
