KUALA LUMPUR, August 4 (Xinhua) -- Sunday is a big night for Malaysians as they bank their first Olympics Gold medal hope, among other goodies, on its top seeded shuttler, Lee Chong Wei who is set to play against China in the Men's Singles finals on Sunday.

Retailers seized the chance to advertise themselves by promising freebies to celebrate the Gold medal, if Malaysia bags it.

Ice cream chain outlet Baskin Robbins promised to offer free ice cream on August 8 while furniture retailer Macy's said it would refund the purchases made at their stores under certain conditions.

Social network sites like Facebook was overwhelmed by encouraging comments and thank you notes to Lee.

Prime minister Najib Razak tweeted "spoke to Chong Wei, congratulated him for the superb win! Told him to create history for Malaysia by winning the Gold".

He had earlier announced a one million ringgit reward to the Gold medalists at this year's Olympics and a lifetime monthly incentive of 5,000 ringgit to boost the athletes' morale.

Lee defeated China's Chen Long 21-13, 21-14 at the Wembley Arena on Friday in a superb performance.

The shuttler, who won a Silver medal in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, would face defending champion, China's Lin Dan on Sunday.

The Malaysian shuttler had Malaysians worried whether he could play at the Olympics when he sustained an ankle injury and made an early exit at the Thomas Cup in May.

Several medal hopefuls, including archer Khairul Annuar Mohd were expelled at the Olympics after making it to the qualifying rounds.

Sunday night's finals would put Lee in a massive test and potentially create history in the Malaysian sports front.

"Please give the Olympics a perfect ending ceremony by winning us a Gold! Btw, thank you in advance for a free ice cream," one Facebook user said.
