BERLIN, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the Supercup final owing to goals by Mario Mandzukic and Thomas Mueller, at Allianz Arena on Sunday.

After five consecutive losses last season to Dortmund, record champion Bayern Munich crushed the winning streak by the "BVB" to lift the first title of the season 2012/2013 in front of 69,901 spectators at Allianz Arena.

Bayern new arrival Mandzukic, and Mueller ensured an early 2-0 lead. Dortmund got one back at the 75 minutes, which was too late for the defending Bundesliga champion.

The Bavarians staged a frenetic start from kicking off against clumsy Dortmund. Jurgen Klopps' men had to swallow Mandzukic's opener, at the sixth minute, who exploited a cross by Franck Ribery to slot home from inside of the box between two Dortmund defenders.

Bayern was on fire whereas Dortmund defended deep to re-organize their line. Eleven minutes into the match, Mueller doubled the lead when he utilized a shot against the left post by Arjen Robben to hammer the rebound into the roof of the net, from very close range.

Dortmund was able to put up some resistance against Bayern attacks but they remained unable to build up their own actions within the first half.

At the beginning of the second half, Dortmund gained a foothold in the match as Bayern failed to sustain their powerful performance. Dortmund created a couple of chances until striker Robert Lewandowski shortened the score to 2-1. Lewandowski beat Bayern goalie Manuel Neuer with a curl shot from eighteen meter into bottom right.

Dortmund got the upper hand in the dying minutes of the game but failed to level the score. Thus Bayern earned the fourth Supercup after 1987, 1990 and 2010.

"We overslept the first half when Bayern staged a good performance. I am happy that we played better at the second half but we accepted the loss due to first half," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said.

"At the first half we played very well and produced many opportunities but after the break Dortmund turned up to give us a hard time," Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes said.
