BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Argentine women's field hockey ace Luciana Aymar said Tuesday she was considering to retire from the national team.

"I still don't know what I'm going to do," said Aymar, 36, a talented midfielder who came away from the London 2012 Olympic Games with a silver medal after the Netherlands beat Argentina 2-0 in the final.

Aymar had already won a silver medal at Sydney 2000 and a bronze each at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.

Returning to Buenos Aires on Tuesday from London, Aymar said taking part in the games and especially leading her country's delegation at the opening ceremony as the designated flag bearer was a career highlight.

"Carrying the flag (in) my last Olympic Games, it was a historic moment in my career and I really enjoyed being a representative of sports from my country," she said.

Speaking to reporters at the Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, Aymar said she had a "happy and very tranquil" birthday, which fell on the same day as the final match against Holland.

"I was sad we lost to Holland, but in the end I was happy to garner a silver medal for the country," she said.

Asked about the field hockey team's performance in London, Aymar said "the most important objective is being fulfilled: keeping Argentinean hockey among the top teams in the world, as we set out to do at Sydney 2000," where the team got its nickname "The Lionesses."
