体坛英语新闻:Olympic medalists encore at Hungary's Gyulai Memorial athletics meet
BUDAPEST, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Olympic gold medalists Sanya Richards-Ross, Krisztian Pars and Christian Taylor all won with ease at the Gyulai Memorial Athletic Meet in Budapest on Monday.
Four-time Olympic and five time world champion Richards-Ross of the USA sailed over the finish line in the women's 200 meters sprint, in 22.70 seconds, while Hungary's hammer thrower champion Krisztian Pars took his meet with a 79.74 meter throw, outclassing all other competitors.
Triple jumper Christian Taylor, whose Olympic win added to the USA's trophies, won in Budapest with a leap of 17.30 meters, the only jumper to exceed the 17 meters mark.
In other contests, Michelle Carter of the USA won the women's shot put, while a real contest evolved in the men's 200 meters sprint. Mario Forsythe of Jamaica won in 20.33 seconds, while Darvis Patton of the USA came in second with 20.34.
Shericka Williams of Jamaica, the silver medalist in London, won the women's 400 meters run in 50.34 seconds, while Jason Richardson of the USA, another London silver medalist, flew over the men's 110 meters hurdles in 13.15 seconds.
Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku of Kenya won the men's 3,000 meters event in 7:35.41, while Timothy Kitum of Kenya won the men's 800 meters contest with a time of 1:45.39 just ahead of Edwin Kiplagat Meli, also of Kenya who clocked 1:45.41.
Konstadinos Baniotis of Greece won the high jump with 2.24 meters.Jarrin Solomon of Trinidad won the men's 400 meters run in 45.48 seconds.
The meet was organized to memorialize Hungary's Istvan Gyulai, who was general secretary of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) until his death six years ago. The meet, a celebration of Hungary's Olympic athletes, ended with official homage to all Hungarian Olympians who finished among the top six slots.
About 15,000 spectators braved the 90+ F degree (32+ C degree) heat to watch the meet.
