LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Yohan Blake of Jamaica won the men's 100 meters sprint with a winning mark of 9.69 seconds, the joint second-fastest time ever, at the Athletissima Diamond League meeting on Thursday.

Blake, a two-time Olympic silver medalist behind his superstar countryman Bolt, equalled Bolt's winning mark of 9.69 at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the world record by then before Bolt went on to improve it to 9.58 at the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin.

America's Tyson Gay was 0.14 seconds behind Blake and Nesta Carter, also from Jamaica, clocked 9.95 seconds to finished third in the race which Bolt did not run.

"9.69 is a wonderful result. I knew he is going to push real hard tonight," said Bolt who stormed to win the 200m event in 19.58 seconds.

"I knew I was fast and my coach told me I could run faster. Today I could finally prove it," said Blake, who shared coach with Bolt.
