体坛英语新闻:Dynamo Kiev appoints Blokhin as new head coach
KIEV, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's soccer club Dynamo Kiev has appointed Oleg Blokhin as its head coach on a four-year deal, the club said in a statement on Tuesday.
Blokhin, who is the manager of Ukrainian national team, will not combine his new role as Dynamo coach with his existing job in Ukraine's Football Federation, the statement said.
Blokhin will remain in charge of the national team for its closest matches against Montenegro and Moldova during the World Cup qualifiers and after the two games he will leave the position of Ukraine's squad manager, it said.
During his career as a football manager, 59-year-old Blokhin coached several Greek and Russian soccer clubs, as well as the Ukrainian national team.
Blokhin has gained popularity as a coach, when Ukraine reached the World Cup quarter-finals in 2006.
Blokhin, who was named European Footballer of the Year in 1975, was one of the best players in the history of Ukraine, playing for Dynamo through the 1970s and the 1980s.
Dynamo has dismissed head coach Yury Semin on Monday, after loss to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian Cup.
