体坛英语新闻:Russia to set Sochi medal goals in next spring
MOSCOW, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian government would set its medal goals for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics until the spring, Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said Friday.
Since the Black Sea resort of Sochi would host a number of competitions in all Winter Olympic sports items to test the newly built facilities, Russian government would set winning goals pending the athletes' performances during the new winter sports season, Mutko told R-Sport.
At the end the season, sports authorities would "formulate a target with sights set on the Sochi Olympics and we'll tell Russian citizens honestly what we want from this national squad," Mutko added.
In winter 2012-2013, a series of test competitions will be held in the Olympics venues.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on earlier October that the preparations for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi were "impeccable".
Under the theme of "Hot. Cool. Yours.", the Sochi Olympics will be opened on Feb. 7, 2014 and run until Feb. 23. The Games will feature 98 medal events, which is 12 more than those of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
