体坛英语新闻：Schalke and Dortmund victorious in German Bundesliga

BERLIN, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Schalke's Jefferson Farfan scored the only goal of the match against passive Nuremberg while defending champions Dortmund wrapped their fourth win of the season with two goals in Freiburg, at the ninth round of German Bundesliga on Saturday.

Schalke craved out the sixth win of the season following the late winner by Jefferson Farfan.

The victory was a stiff piece of work against Nuremberg that looked for the first win after six winless matches. Still Schalke controlled the match for long periods as Nuremberg made no move to stage offensive actions. Despite Schalke's dominance they struggled to create golden opportunities against Nuremberg's bulwark.

Finally, with 77 minutes into the match Farfan exploited a cross by Christian Fuchs to slot the winner from the penalty area to seal the deal ahead of time.

Borussia Dortmund and Freiburg struggled with snowy weather nonetheless the reigning champion wrapped three points thanks to the goals by Neven Subotic and Mario Goetze.

Freiburg staged a bright start on home soil as Dortmund were unable to implement their short passing game due to the adverse weather conditions. Thus Dortmund needed some time to adjust their style of play meanwhile Freiburg squandered a couple of scoring opportunities at the first half.

With beginning of the second half Dortmund seized the initiative to set the hosts under pressure. Dortmund were rewarded for their efforts when Neven Subotic nodded home from 11 meters into bottom right following a long cross by Marco Reus.

Freiburg almost equalized the score through Erik Jendrisek but Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller denied the leveller.

In the closing period of the match Mario Goetze doubled the lead with a low shot into the bottom left to wrap the fourth win of the season.

Elsewhere, Mainz cruised to a 3-0 victory over Hoffenheim owing to the hat rick by Adam Szalai, who increased his season's goal tally to seven.

Struggling Wolfsburg crushed Dusseldorf 4-1 in their first match under caretaker Lorenz Guenther Koestner to get rid of the last position at the standings whilst Bremen were held to a 1-1 draw at Greuther Fuerth.

The following fixtures are scheduled on Sunday: record champions and frontrunner Bayern Munich encounter Leverkusen, Stuttgart host stunner Frankfurt and Hannover meet Monchengladbach.
