体坛英语新闻：Madrid derby helps Barca extend lead in matchday 14 in Primera Liga

MADRID, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil saw Real Madrid defeat neighbors Atletico 2-0 in the city derby in the most important game of matchday 14 of the BBVA Primera Liga on Saturday night.

It was an ugly tense game of football, but what good play there came from Real Madrid and as a result they won the game.

Ronaldo scored a free kick after 16 minutes and Ozil finished off a neat passing move midway through the first half.

Ronaldo hit another free kick against the bar and had a shot a shot hit the post as the game went to a conclusion, but despite his obvious frustration, the work had already been done and Atletico will have to wait for another chance to end their dreadful run.

The win, which came thanks to two goals from Leo Messi, and further strikes from Gerard Pique, Adriano and Cesc Fabrigas gives Barca the best ever start to a season in Spain with 40 points from a possible 42, while Messi's two strikes mean his is just one goal off Gerd Muller's record of 85 goals in a calendar year, even though his first of the night looked to be more of an own goal from Athletic defender Fernando Amorebieta.

Valencia's Mauricio Pellegrino became the second managerial casualty of the season being sacked shortly after his side's 5-2 humiliation at home to Real Sociedad.

Roberto Soldado had got Valencia off to a flying start, but the visitors drew level through Alberto de la Bella five minutes before the break, just after Valencia's Jonas Gonsalves had been sent off for using his elbow.

Real Sociedad grew in confidence after the break and went ahead after 56 minutes before Diego Ifran made it 3-1 shortly after the half hour. Soldado's second of the night made it 2-3 with 18 minutes remaining, but Imanol Agirretxe re-established Real Sociedad's advantage and Carlos Vela's 90th minute penalty sealed a stunning 5-2 away win for the Basques.

Getafe kicked off the weekend with a 1-0 win at home to Malaga, who had begun the game in fourth place.

Albert Lopo's close range header 10 minutes into the second half was all that separated the teams in a game where Malaga failed to turn their possession into clear cut chances.

Javier Aguirre's debut as Espanyol coach ended in a 0-0 draw away to Granada after a bright opening from the visitors at midday on Sunday.

Betis move into fourth place thanks to a manic second half away to Deportivo la Coruna. Betis led 1-0 thanks to a Ruben Castro goal at halftime and the points looked secure when he added a second 10 minutes after halftime.

However, two quick goals from Riki leveled the score before Joel Campbell decided an exciting goal in Betis' favor with 15 minutes remaining.

Celta and Levante drew 1-1 with Roger's late strike for Levante cancelling out Quique de Lucas' opener for Celta.

Meanwhile Mallorca have now gone nine games without a win after a 1-1 draw at home to Zaragoza. Mallorca missed a penalty after Zaragzoa defender Glenn Loovens was sent off after just 12 minutes, but Helder Postiga put Zaragoza ahead just a minute later. Zaragoza toiled trying to score an equalizing goal, but it was not until the 86th minute that Victor Casadesus finally broke Zaragoza's resistance.

Osasuna defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-0 thanks to a Kike Sola goal on Friday night and the round of games ends on Monday when Sevilla entertain Valladolid.
