体坛英语新闻：Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes joins Hoffenheim on loan

BERLIN, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes joined German side Hoffenheim to replace struggling goalkeeper Tim Wiese, the both clubs announced on Thursday.

Both sides agreed on a loan deal until the end of the season, as Gomes is Tottenham's third choice behind Hugo Lloris and Brad Friedel.

Therefore the Brazilian international will replace out of form German international Tim Wiese, whose goalkeeping abilities have been questioned since his transfer to Hoffenheim in the summer 2012 following several misjudgements.

"With Heurelho Gomes we signed a goalkeeper with a lot of experience on the highest, national and international, level. I'm convinced that he will the club keeping up in first division," Hoffenheim general manager Andreas Mueller said.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper joined the "Spurs" in 2008 to make 96 appearances. He started his career in his native country at Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where he made 59 matches between 2001 and 2004. In 2004 he joined Dutch side Eindhoven to play 128 times in four years.

Hoffenheim sit on before last position of the Bundesliga standings with only 13 points out of 19 rounds.
