体坛英语新闻:Plushenko to resume training in June
MOSCOW, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Russian star figure skater Evgeny Plushenko is to resume full-scale training in June after a back surgery, his coach Alexei Mishin said Saturday.
The Turin 2006 Olympic champion attended an exhibition event to open a new ice rink in the Far Eastern city of Yuzhny-Sakhalinsk Saturday.
"Full-scale training begins on June 17," Mishin said, adding his team would start to assemble a program for Plushenko in May.
The 30-year-old Plushenko withdrew from the 2013 European Championships after the short program due to his back problem. He received a surgery on Jan. 31 in Israel to replace a spinal disk with a synthetic one.
Asked whether Plushenko had recovered, Mishin said "it's still too early to say."
Plushenko hopes he will culminate with a gold medal at Sochi Olympics in next February.
