体坛英语新闻:Ecuador's Valencia to stay with Man U

QUITO, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Manchester United's Ecuadorean-born midfielder Antonio Valencia said Tuesday he has no plan to leave the English club and hopes to retire in Britain before eventually moving back to his homeland at a later date.

Valencia quashed rumors of his leaving the team, telling Ecuador's La Deportiva radio station Tuesday that "neither the club nor the coach has said anything about leaving Manchester United, I think it was a rumor that came about in Ecuador more than anywhere else."

"Manchester is my home, and I would like to stay here for a lot longer and retire here before going back to Ecuador," said Valencia, whose team clinched its 20th English League title Monday.

Valencia made 35 appearances this season with Manchester United, but only scored his first goal of the season last week against West Ham.

The 27-year-old has been in poor form following injuries.

Valencia is a long way from his top days, when he was named United's Player of the Year in 2012.

But despite his downturn, Valencia looks ready to forge ahead.

"I have the confidence that the coach has given me and when you go into a match with the confidence of the team, it gives you extra motivation," said Valencia.
