体坛英语新闻:German Hamburg sign Oliver Kreuzer as director of sport
BERLIN, Jun 2 (Xinhua) -- Former Karlsruhe director of soccer Oliver Kreuzer joins Hamburg as director of sports on a three-year deal, both clubs announced on Sunday.
Kreuzer is the successor of Frank Arnesen, who was sacked weeks ago with immediate effect, as Karlsruhe accepted Hamburg's offer to release the 47 year old from his contract.
"Oliver Kreuzer was our desired candidate. He is the best solution for the club in our current situation. He worked extremely success orientated at his previous stops in Basel, Salzburg, Graz and Karlsruhe," Hamburg's board member Manfred Ertel said following Sundays annual members meeting.
Kreuzer will come on duty on June 11 as he put pen to paper on a three-year contact until 2016.
The former Bundesliga player defender started his career in Karlsruhe where he scored eight goals in 182 matches. Thereafter he joined Bayern Munich to score eight times in 150 appearances.
Hamburg will be absent from international competitions as the "Rothosen" were only able to grab 7th position in the standing which is not enough for Europe.
