体坛英语新闻:Uganda sends two for World Taekwondo Championship in Mexico
KAMPALA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Two top martial artists from Uganda on Tuesday traveled to Puebla, Mexico to represent the East African country in the 15th World Taekwondo Senior Championship.
The championship which will take place from July 15-21 will attract athletes from over 200 countries and regions.
Eric Onen and Leroy Ocungi who have been training for over two months make Uganda's team.
Peter Komakech, General Secretary Uganda Taekwondo Association who also accompanied the team, told Xinhua in an interview that he is confident the team will put up a good show.
"They have been training seriously and we are sure they will do well," said Komakech.
He said he would have wanted to take a bigger team, but because of lack of funds, they could only take two athletes.
"We call upon the government and the private sector to come in and support Taekwondo because it is one sport where Uganda can also do well and win medals at international level," he said.
Onen said although he is aware he will face tough opponents especially from Asia, he is ready for the task ahead.
"I will not fear any one. I will simply prove that am well prepared," said the confident Onen.
