体坛英语新闻：Luanda to stage international half marathon race

LUANDA, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Angola will stage an international half marathon race on September 1 to mark the 71th birthday of President Jose Eduardo dos Santos which falls on August 28, organizers said here on Friday.

The event, dubbed as "Marina Baia Internacional Half Marathon Luanda City", is expected to be staged in the capital with the participation of 3000 competitors and the winner is entitled to win some 50,000 U.S. dollars with the support of the Luanda City Administrative Commission, Angola Athletics Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

A Mini-Family Marathon, a non benefit race for lovers of athletics, will also be held to cover five kilometers, according to a press release from the company of the MRD Investments Lda, promoter of the half-marathon event.

President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, in power for over 33 years, is one of the longest serving rulers in Africa.
