体坛英语新闻:Katina Hosszu wins women's 200 medley gold as Ye Shiwen disappoints in fourth
BARCELONA, Spain, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Katinka Hosszu won the gold medal in the women's 200 meter medley in the world swimming championships on Monday night.
The swimmer, who had been fastest in the qualifying heats and the semi-final, lived up to her billing as the fastest swimmer of the year in the event to produce a complete swim in which she had never looked in danger as she swam 2:07.92.
Australia's Alice Coutts, who earlier in the evening had won silver in the 100 meter butterfly, collected her second silver medal off the night as she finished second in a time of 2.09.39, while Spain's Mireia Belmonte Garcia swam a strong leg to take bronze in 2:09.45.
Belmonte Garcia's swim was especially brave given that she had swum 1,500 meters freestyle heats in the morning session.
Meanwhile China's Ye Shiwen was a slightly disappointing fourth after struggling in with her butterfly and breast-stroke. The Olympic gold medallist actually went into the last leg, her powerful freestyle in eighth place and although her freestyle saw her climb the field, it was not enough to win her a medal as she missed out by over a second.
