体坛英语新闻:Van der Burgh wins 50 meter breast-stroke gold to take World Championship medal tally to 4
BARCELONA, Spain, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Cameron Van der Burgh made it a brilliant night for South Africa when he claimed gold in the men's 50 meter breast-stroke final in Barcelona on Wednesday night when he beat Australia's Christian Sprenger by just one hundredths of a second.
Van Der Burgh lived up to his billing of pre-race favorite with a time of 26.77, while Sprenger clocked 26.78.
It made it a great night for South Africa in the pool in the Palau St Jordi, given that Chad Le Clos had claimed gold in the 200 meters butterfly just minutes earlier and to make things even better Giulio Zorzi took bronze for South Africa.
Van der Burgh won gold in the same event in 2009 and along with Oleg Lisogur is the only man to win multiple golds in the race, although Wednesday's win means he now has a total of 4 medals in the event thanks to bronze in 2011 and 2007.
