WASHINGTON, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Serena Williams of the United States breezed into the quarterfinals at the Western & Southern Open on Thursday.
The current world number one defeated Mona Barthel from Germany 6-4, 6-1 in the third round encounter.
Williams will meet Romanian side Simona Halep in the quarterfinals.
