体坛英语新闻：Election of 2020 Olympic Games hosts to be very competitive

BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The election for the hosts of the 2020 Olympic Games among Madrid, Tokyo and Istanbul, to be held Saturday in Buenos Aires, will be "very competitive, this is that any city can win," President of the Argentine Olympic Committee (AOC) said on Friday.

In a press conference held in Buenos Aires, the AOC president Gerardo Werthein said the cities' delegations have performed much lobbying, which "is not aggressive is very active."

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is holding its 125th general assembly session in Buenos Aires, where it will also be announced the successor of Belgian Jacques Rogge, current IOC president.

"Each city has brought the best they have, as well as solid arguments to prove each one is the best candidate. The three cities have worked with much order, respect and passion. This will be a very competitive final," said Werthein.

On Saturaday, each city will have 45 minutes to present their arguments and later there will be 10 minutes for questions, added Werthein.

The voting will begin around 3 p.m. local time (6 p.m. GMT) in Buenos Aires Hilton hotel, located in Puerto Madero neighborhood, and two hours later the winner will be announced.

Werthein praised IOC president Rogge, whose successor will be announced on Tuesday in Buenos Aires, saying he is "the president of transparency, integrity, democracy and anti-doping fight."

On the other hand, the Argentine Ministry of Interior announced that more than 1,600 police officers will take part in the security operation for the 125th IOC session.

The ministry ordered the deployment of 700 effectives of the Argentine Federal Police, 351 from the Airport Security Police, 155 from the Argentine Navy Prefecture and 100 from the Argentine National Gendarmerie.

Meanwhile, Buenos Aires Metropolitan Police has deployed 200 agents to support the operation.
