体坛英语新闻:Shakhtar show experience to ruin Real Sociedad's return to Champions League

MADRID, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Shakhtar Donetsk striker Alex Teixeira scored twice as his side ruined Real Sociedad's return to the Champions League with a 2-0 win in the Anoeta Stadium.

The Basque side had not played in Europe for 10 years and knew that in such a difficult group as theirs, containing sides such as Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen, it was vital to get off to a winning start.

That produced a few nerves among the home side, who spent a lot of the opening minutes sitting in their own half looking to play on the break while Shakhtar, a team with a wealth of European experience, looked to take control of the game.

As a result the opening minutes of the game, played in a rainy Anoeta Stadium, were played in the Real Sociedad half, although without danger for the goal defended by Claudio Bravo until the home side began to drag themselves into the match with Haris Sefarovic and Xabi Prieto creating chances.

Real Sociedad asked for a penalty for a foul on Sefarovic, but the referee was probably correct to decide that the foul was outside of the area and Ruben Pardo's free kick was deflected just over the bar, before Antoine Griezmann hit another free kick.

The second side kicked off with Real Sociedad in more confident mode and looking to control the game more, rather than playing on the break as they had tended to do in the first 45 minutes, however, it was not easy against an experience defense and too often the Basque side found themselves bogged down outside the visitors' penalty area.

Sefarovic, who was a constant threat, saw a shot well blocked by Shakhtar deeper Andrey Pyratov as he found space down the left, before Shakhtar had a goal ruled out for one of the clearest offsides you are likely to see. That was a warning that was not heeded as Alex Teixeira fired the visitors into the lead in the 65th minute after a flowing move from the Ukrainian's. The Brazilian drilled a low shot past Bravo from the edge of the area to give his side the lead.

The home side responded by bringing Imanol Agirretxe into the game for the striker's first appearance this season after injury, but the big striker was unable to make an impact in the remaining 15 minutes, partly because the visitors used their experience to slow down the match and frustrate the home side.

Teixeira scored Shakhtar's second of the game three minutes from time after a run from the left which the Real defense failed to block or close down before he beat Bravo with a powerful shot to give his side three valuable points and complicate life for Real, who now have to travel to Germany in the second group game in two weeks.
