体坛英语新闻：No positive cases in Chinese National Games finals for first time

BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- For the first time in 20 years, the Chinese National Games finals were free from doping scandals.

All the urine and blood samples from the Aug. 31-Sept. 12 sports meet were tested on Wednesday and no positive results were reported.

"This proves that domestic sports meet can be free of doping scandals," said Jiang Zhixue, head of governmental anti-doping department that funds China Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA).

CHINADA oversaw the 12th National Games doping program and all the 2,352 doping tests were conducted in its Beijing lab which served the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

"After we have maintained zero record at international multi-sport meet for many years, I believe this day will come for domestic competition," Jiang said.

China have taken a zero-tolerance stance toward doping and kept its delegations away from doping cases at the summer and winter Olympic Games since 2000 and Asian Games since 1998.

The National Games had been bothered with doping scandals since China first carried out drug tests at the seventh edition in 1993.

The seventh games saw 11 positive cases from just 534 tests while there were four positive cases in last games in 2009.
