体坛英语新闻:Classico the standout, but Atletico also big winners in matchday 10 in Spain
MADRID, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the Camp Nou Stadium in the first Clasico of the season on Saturday night in the standout game off Spain's match day 10.
In what was far from a good game between two sides who can both be accused of being over-cautious, the points were decided by goals from Neymar, who was set up by Andres Iniesta after 18 minutes, and Alexis Sanchez looked to have assured the points with a delightful chipped goal with just 12 minutes left in the game.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has come in for criticism for experimenting with Sergio Ramos in central midfield and starting the game without a specialized striker and when he replaced Ramos with Asier Illaramendi and the disappointing Gareth Bale with Karim Benzema his side improved and were unlucky not to have been level before Alexis' goal as Ronaldo looked to have a good penalty appeal turned down and Benzema rattled the crossbar from 25 yards.
Jese Rodriguez scored a consolation goal in the 91st minute after a swift break, but Barca used their experience to kill the game off near the Madrid corner flag with little football played in the last two minutes and are now six points ahead of their rivals.
Atletico Madrid took advantage of Real Madrid's defeat to move five points ahead of their city rivals in second place as they piled the misery on Betis, who are now in the relegation zone.
Youngster Oliver Torres put Atletico ahead as early as the first minute, before David Villa rediscovered his scoring touch with two goals early in the second half and Diego Costa added to a comprehensive 4-0 win with his 11th goal of the campaign with 25 minutes remaining and Gabi scored a fifth in injury time.
Villarreal remain fourth after Geovani Dos Santos led their 4-1 thrashing of Valencia. The Mexican forward scored his side's last two goals of the game, but was a constant handful for the Valencia defense and played a major part in the goals scored by Uche and Hernan Perez which put his side in control of the match.
Sevilla defeated 10 man Osasuna 2-1 in the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium with goals from Igor Rakitic and Jairo after Damia had been sent off late in the first half for the visitors. Oriol Riera netted a late consolation for the visitors.
Meanwhle Almeria remain bottom of the table and without a win after losing 3-0 away to Real Sociedad, who opened the scoring through Antoine Griezmann, who netted after 13 and 50 minutes, before Jose Angel sealed the result five minutes later. The result once again puts the future of Almeria coach Francisco Rodriguez in doubt.
After Valladolid stunned Rayo Vallecano 3-0 in the Vallecas Stadium on Friday night in the first game of the weekend, Saturday kicked off with a shock result as Celta Vigo ended a run of defeats which had seen them drop into the relegation zone with a 5-0 win away to Malaga.
Alex Lopez opened the scoring for the visitors after just five minutes and Augusto Fernandez made it 0-2 after 23 minutes. Lopez's second of the afternoon made it 0-3 after the break before Nolito added a fourth to send the Malaga fans streaming for the exits with 20 minutes remaining, which at least meant they missed Charles netting Celta's fifth.
Manuel Iturra's goal gave Granada a vital 1-0 win away to Elche, a result which could have saved the job of under-pressure Granada coach Lucas Alcaraz. The game was marred by racist insults directed at Granada defender Nyom in the last minute by Elche fans and the club faces a stiff fine after referee De Cerro Grande reported the incident in his post match report.
Saturday also saw Levante end seven months without a home win as they defeated Espanyol 3-0. Nabil El Zhar opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a foul that was clearly outside of the penalty area after 26 minutes. Baba Diawara doubled the lead with a firm header two minutes later and then set El Zhar up for a powerful shot which added a third just five minutes after halftime.
The round of matches ends on Monday with an attractive game as Getafe entertaining Athletic Club Bilbao, who have failed to win in their previous nine visits to their stadium.
