MADRID, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night with a comfortable 4-0 win at home to Austria Vienna.

Atletico went into the game as clear favorites after their 3-0 away win against the Austrian side a fortnight ago and quickly made their superiority count.

Coach Diego Simeone played virtually his strongest side with Raul Garcia in for David Villa, and was rewarded with another purposeful display.

As usual Atletico kept things tight in the middle and looked to open the pitch up with full backs Juanfran Torres and Felipe Luis pushing forward and took the lead after just 11 minutes when central defender Joao Mranda was on hand to score from close range following a corner.

Raul Garcia fired wide when well placed and Diego Costa saw a shot saved before Garcia doubled Atletico's lead after 25 minutes. Costa worked space down the right and Garcia was on hand to nod his pinpoint cross into the back of the net.

Only a fine save from Vienna keeper Heinz Linder shortly afterwards denied Costa Atletico's third of the night. The Brazilian, who is likely to be named in the Spain national team squad on Friday, unleased a fearsome dipping volley which Linder did well to tip over as Atletico dominated proceedings.

Felipe Luis added a third goal on the stroke of halftime with a simple tap in after the ball had bounced back off the post.

With the result virtually assured Simeone introduced youngster Oscar into the game for the second half, giving a rest to Adrian Lopez and recent signing Joshua Guilavogui was also in the action 10 minutes after the break and Cristian Rodriguez came on for Koke with 25 minutes remaining.

The game lost intensity as a result of the changes: Raul Garcia saw another shot blocked as Atletico launched another break and Costa was a constant threat before Garcia provoked a penalty which Costa saw saved by Linder.

The striker then made amends with the goal of the game as he sidefooted home following a slick passing move with eight minutes left.
