体坛英语新闻:Scott breaks Royal Sydney course record in Australian Open Golf championship
SYDNEY, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Australian golfer Adam Scott has smashed the Royal Sydney course record with a spectacular 10-under-par 62 in the opening round of the Australian Open, local media reported on Thursday.
Scott broke the course record of 65 set by five Australian players, opening his round with six consecutive birdies and finishing it with birdies on the last four holes.
The world number two took a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Open, ahead of Canadian Ryan Yip, who scored a 7-under 65.
Scott is pursuing a triple crown of Australian golf after winning the Australian PGA Championship and Australian Masters titles in November.
The 33-year-old Australia star said the crowds were very supportive at Royal Sydney.
"The crowds were incredible this morning, it's great to see golf on such a high at the moment," he told reporters in Sydney on Thursday.
"I holed so many 4 and 5 feet putts today, and that's what you have to do to shoot a good score."
