体坛英语新闻:Women's 200m individual Medley meets record breaking in SEA Games

NAY PYI TAW, Dec. 12, (Xinhua) -- Women's 200m Backstroke meets record breaking in Nay Pyi Taw, in the 27th Southeast Asia Games.

As aquatic sport starts on Thursday evening in the swimming pool of Nay Pyi Taw's Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex, Women's 200m individual Medley sees the record breaking by Vietnam's Nguyen Thianh Vien.

She swam through the water to reach the destination by 2:14.80 (2 minute and 14.80 second) that surpasses 2:15.73 (2 min 15.73 sec) of the SEA Games record.

She broke the record and laid it anew with her own and it is not only the achievement for her but also for the 27th Southeast Asia Games, Nay Pyi Taw that gives the chance for her to create a standard.

The Women's 200m individual Medley is competed by eight contestants from Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Nine countries except Timor Leste and Brunei participate in five-day swimming event, and out of seven games held today, Women' s 200m individual Medley stands out as its athlete Nguyen Thianh Vien brought along the record breaking.

Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam are the main rivals to vie for golds while Indonesia are the late bloomers. The 27th Southeast Asia (SEA) Games comprises 33 sports that award 460 golds, 460 silvers, and 637 bronze medals to the winners.

The Games is held from 11 to 22 December in four different places, namely Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Nge Saung beach in Pathein with the theme of 'Green, Clean, and Friendship'.

Over 6000 athletes and officials from 11 ASEAN countries participate in the biggest biennial tournament of the region.
