体坛英语新闻：Frankfurt down APOEL 2-0 in UEFA Europa League

BERLIN, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Frankfurt sealed their fifth victory and eliminated APOEL with a 2-0 to finish atop the standings of group F on Thursday.

German side Eintracht Frankfurt had already sealed their place in the last 32 but yet they remained a clean sheet at their third game on home soil. Meanwhile third positioned APOEL were eliminated from Europa League. The hosts dominated the match but had to wait until the restart before Stephan Schroeck and Constant Djapka set the course for the win.

Frankfurt controlled the opening period but Jan Rosenthal pulled wide Stephan Schroeck's pass at the 16th minute. The "Eagles" seized the reins but failed to break the deadlock, although Srdjan Lakic and Takashi Inui came close before the break.

APOEL needed a win to maintain their hopes to advance into the last 32 albeit they lacked in offence power to threaten Frankfurt.

The hosts continued with their dominant performance at the second half. Therefore Schroeck rewarded his side with the opener at the 68th minute. The defender headed home Constant Djapka's cross into the far post corner.

Djapka added his name to the scoreboard only nine minutes later making it 2-0 following a dead ball goal from 18 meters. The second goal took the wind out of the visitors' sails whereas Frankfurt's Marvin Bakalorz squandered two golden chances in the closing period.

The Germans finish on first position of group F followed by Maccabi Tel Aviv, APOEL and Bordeaux.
