ROME, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Juventus beat Atalanta 4-1 on Sunday to move five points clear of Roma who are still unbeaten this season in the Italian Serie A.

Antonio Conte's men broke the deadlock after just six minutes when Carlos Tevez scored his fourth goal in his last two league games.

Atalanta soon levelled through Maximiliano Moralez, who became the first Serie A player to score against Gianluigi Buffon in 745 minutes of football.

But Juventus stepped up a gear after the interval, with Paul Pogba, Fernando Llorente and Arturo Vidal all finding the back of the net.

Roma, meanwhile, stretched their unbeaten league run to 19 with a 4-0 thumping of basement club Catania.

Roma will go to challenge Juventus at Turin on January 5, which their head coach Rudi Garcia looks forward to.

"We have 41 points after 17 games, an extraordinary sum. With these points we'd usually be top, but this year Juventus win all the time. After Christmas we can think about the game in Turin," Garcia said.

Thanks to a dramatic late goal from Rodrigo Palacio, Inter beat AC Milan 1-0 in the Milan derby.

The Argentine's cheeky flicked finish four minutes from time was swiftly followed by a red card for Sulley Muntari after an altercation with Zdravko Kuzmanovic on another miserable night for Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri.

The Milan head coach said his side lost the derby due to physical exhaustion.

"The team was a little tired at the end, and unfortunately I had few options," he said.

"I'm angry at what I saw here tonight. In the first six months Milan have rarely been able to count on the same eleven players, as we had numerous injuries and are the only Italian team left in the Champions League," he added.

His Inter counterpart Walter Mazzarri said he knew Milan would get physically exhausted at the second half.

"We conceded too many counter-attacks, so with Ricky Alvarez missing I thought it best to give a sense of security with a more solid midfield. We knew Milan couldn't keep that pressing up and would inevitably run out of steam," he said.

Inter leapfrogged Verona into fifth while Milan are left with just five point clear of the relegation zone.

Fiorentina closed the gap on third place to just three points with a 1-0 victory over Sassuolo, while Verona kept pace with the chasing pack in a convincing 4-1 win against Lazio, who have just one triumph from their last eight league fixtures.

Torino made it five games unbeaten as they thrashed lowly Chievo 4-1 and Sampdoria held Parma to a 1-1 draw.

At the other end of the table, Alessandro Diamanti scored the only goal as Bologna hauled themselves out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win against Genoa.
