体坛英语新闻：Guangdong beats Shanghai Sharks, Qingdao suffers 12th straight loss

BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Wang Shipeng, guard of China's national basketball team, scored nine three-pointers and snatched 31 points to help Guangdong Hongyuan edge Shanghai Sharks 90-85 for a eight-game winning streak in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Wednesday.

Yi Jianlian, a former NBA player, pocketed 18 points and 17 rebounds for Guangdong, with Joshua Powell having 12 points. Shanghai's Quincy Douby grabbed a team-high 28 points, and Darnell Jackson added 21 points and 14 rebounds.

With two three-pointers from Wang Shipeng, Guangdong established a 9-2 lead at the very beginning of the game, and Shanghai narrowed the gap to three points when the first quarter ended.

Falling behind at 41-47 in the first half, Shanghai tied the game in the third quarter.

Shanghai got a 82-76 lead in the last quarter. Wang Shipeng scored two crucial three-pointers after the score was evened to help Guangdong seize the victory.

Qingdao Doublestars, which Tracy McGrady joined in the last season, lost to Jiangsu Dragons 121-133 to suffer the 12th straight loss, the team's longest losing streak.

Qingdao, currently bottom of CBA, had already lost the chance of advancing to the playoffs this season.

Josh Akognon scored a team-high 39 points, while Zhang Chiyu and Yang Genglin combined with 31 points for Qingdao. Marcus Haislip snatched a game-high 40 points for Jiangsu.

In Wednesday's other games, Fujian SBS beat Dongguan Marco Polo 97-92, Foshan Long Lions was defeated by Beijing Ducks 91-101, Tianjin Ronggang won over Liaoning Hengye 112-108, Shanxi Fenjiu beat Bayi Fubang 109-97, Jilin Northeast Tigers defeated Zhejiang Chouzhou 136-120 and Shandong Gold beat Sichuan Jinqiang 114-81.
