SOCHI, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Olympic champion Charles Hamelin of Canada, who is aiming to be the first man to win the short track speed skating 500 meters in two Olympic Games, takes the team's new skinsuit as secret weapon.

The 29-year-old won two gold medals in the men's 500m and 5,000m relay in the Vancouver Games, and he will wear the newest skinsuit basing on the aerodynamics of the fabric at the upcoming Winter OLympics in Sochi.

"It is a secret, so I can't really tell you much. These little differences between teams help a lot. We have the best skinsuits we have ever had," said Hamelin at the press conference on Wednesday.

"I never practise in that suit I am going to compete in. So we are told this suit is faster and more comfortable. Knowing that in our minds will make us faster in competition," he added.

Hamelin became more powerful in the men's short track speed skating after the Vancouver Games as he dominated the men's 1,000m and 1,500m in the world cup of the current season, topping the world ranking of the two events.

"There is a lot of pressure on me from Vancouver. But it has been good practice for me. I want to be the first man to win the 500m in two Olympic Games. Every day I am on the ice, I want to win the gold."

Hamelin's teammate Olivier Jean told the press that the new skinsuit was more stretchy. He said: "This new fabric is very comfortable to skate in."

Hamelin's father, also the team leader Yves Hamelin thought the new skinsuit had better resistance to splits and improved breathing quality as well as providing better protection.

"Right now the athletes are still training with the old suits but getting the feel of the new ones too, and it looks like they are very happy with them."
