BERLIN, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Sebastian Kehl helped Dortmund to crave out three point against Freiburg meanwhile Mainz denied Berlin a victory on the road to close the 24th round of German Bundesliga on Sunday.

Dortmund defeated Freiburg for the eighth consecutive time as Kehl's winner ensured the 15th win of the season for the "BVB". The victory tightens Dortmund's second place, having a four-point advantage to third placed Leverkusen. Freiburg recorded their 13th loss at the 24th game to remain on second from the bottom with just 19 points.

Both sides staged an unspectacular game, as both defence lines neutralized offensive efforts on the distance. Thus goal-scoring opportunities were a rare occurrence. Dortmund showed individual class but lacked in penetration whereas Freiburg continued to be harmless in front of the rivals goal.

However, Dortmund broke the deadlock just before the hour mark when team captain Kehl scored the only goal of the match from 27 meters with a well-placed curl over Freiburg custodian Oliver Baumann. The hosts tried to respond but all their actions didn't pose to be a threat for Dortmund.

"It was a difficult game for us. We scored our goal, although a lucky one. I can live with that 1-0 victory," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said.

Elsewhere, Mainz snatched one point on home soil against Berlin following a 1-1 draw.

Mainz played a powerful first half but wasted the chance several times to open the scoring. Consequently Berlin punished Mainz's wastefulness at the second half when Adrian Ramos marked his 15th goal of the season from the inside right into the bottom left corner at the 51st minute.

Nonetheless, Berlin blew their chance to grab three points on the road as Sami Allagui brought down Joo-Ho Park inside the box to cause a penalty for the home side. Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting stepped up and overcame Berlin's goalkeeper Thomas Kraft into the bottom left corner at the 65th minute.

"After 90 minutes I am delighted that we take at least one-point home. We showed our true face only at the second half," Berlin coach Jos Luhukay said.

Mainz slip from 6th to 7th position with 38 points whilst Berlin slump from 8th to 9th place with 36 points.
