体坛英语新闻:Napoli beat Torino thanks to Higuain's last-gasp goal

ROME, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Gonzalo Higuain scored a contraversial last-gasp goal to earn Napoli a 1-0 win at Torino on Monday.

Torino had the better of the game as they hit the post twice, but suffered their fourth consecutive loss as Higuain found the net in the last minute.

Higuain conceded he tripped Kamil Glik before scoring the winner.

"On the contact with Glik I was running very quickly and so was he," he said."I can only celebrate the goal."

Napoli head coach Rafa Benitez refused to discuss the controversial incident.

"I haven't spoken about referees throughout the season, so I am not going to start now," he said.

"I think we created scoring opportunities, just like Torino did, and proved that this team wants to win right to the end," he said.

"Torino clammed up very well to go on the counter-attack. We played against Porto on Thursday. We've been playing two games per week all season, so it's not easy to stay sharp," he added.

His Torino counterpart Giampiero Ventura was left livid by the referee's decision on the Higuain's tripping.

"I don't want to get into this. I'm embarrassed, as I said I didn't want to talk about referees anymore, but I don't know what else to say after an objectively difficult season," he said.

"The incidents are all incredibly obvious, it's really embarrassing. I prefer to talk about the game and hope this season ends as quickly as possible," he said.

The win lifted Napoli 10 points clear of fourth-placed Fiorentina, taking them closer to a Champions League berth and keeping them in the hunt for a second-place finish which would spare them a playoff in August.

In the wake of a barren run, Ventura boldly fielded Riccardo Meggiorini and Paulo Barreto instead of Alessio Cerci and Ciro Immobile.

It seemed to be the right choice as the Granata attack posed a greater threat than in recent weeks, when they had failed to score in three games.

On the half-hour mark, Cesare Bovo struck the outside of the right-hand post with Reina being beaten.

There was little coming from Napoli's attack until Higuain nearly got in early in the second half, shooting straight at Daniele Padelli with only his second chance of the evening.

A minute later, Meggiorini found a way through, but only hit the outside of the left-hand post with his shot.
