BERLIN, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Hoffenheim held newly crowned champions Bayern Munich to a 3-3 draw while Dortmund defended their second place thanks to a hat rick by Marco Reus against Stuttgart in the 28th round German Bundesliga on Saturday.

Hoffenheim ended Bayern's winning streak of 19 games as they snatched one point following a six-goal festival on the road. The visitors took the lead but had to recover from a 3-1 deficit to crave out a draw against the German giants.

Hoffenheim's Anthony Modeste caught the hosts flatfooted at the 23rd minute when the striker overcame Bayern's custodian Tom Starke with a follow up shot. The Bavarians recovered eight minutes later as veteran Claudio Pizzaro headed home a Xherdan Shaqiri cross to make it 1-1. Only three minutes later Bayern finished their comeback as Shaqiri slotted home an assist by Pizzaro inside the box. The Peruvian got his name again on the score sheets when he made it three for the hosts at the 40th minute.

It looked like a bulletproof lead for the Bavarians but Hoffenheim responded with a stunning free kick goal by Sejad Salihovic, whose well-placed shot from 30 meters found the back of top left corner, just before the break.

Hoffenheim piled on the pressure giving the hosts a difficult time. As a consequence Hoffenheim got rewarded for their efforts as Roberto Firmino solo run and goal equalized the scoring at the 75th minute.

Bayern sit atop the standings with 78 points while Hoffenheim stay on 9th place with 36 points.

Stuttgart squandered a 2-0 lead as Dortmund's Marco Reus donated a hat rick to turn things around.

Relegation threatened Stuttgart thought they had three points save when they caught second-placed Dortmund on the hop with two quick goals but, things ended other than expected.

Stuttgart's Christian Gentner capitalized on a turnover to mark the lead from the edge of the box at the 9th minute. The Swabians doubled the lead 10 minutes later when Martin Harnik tapped in a square pass by Ibrahima Traore.

Juergen Klopp's men gained a foothold into the match when Marco Reus made use of a through ball by Jonas Hofmann to reduce the arrears to 2-1 at the half hour mark.

Dortmund pressed frenetically for the draw but they had to wait until the 68th minute before Georg Niedermeier committed a professional foul to see a straight red card and to cause a penalty. Reus converted the penalty to make it two-all draw. The German international completed the comeback win, and killed the game, with eight minutes remaining, scoring his third goal of the day.

The "BVB" regain second place with 55 points whilst Stuttgart stay on second last position, suffering their 16th loss of the season.

Bottom-placed Braunschweig held fourth-placed Leverkusen to a 1-1 draw on the road.

Ken Reichel shocked the hosts with two minutes into the second half when he volleyed home a cross into the near post corner. Leverkusen levelled six minutes later through Stefan Kie'ling. Yet they failed to grab decisive points in the hunt for a berth in Europe against courageous Braunschweig. With the result Leverkusen endanger their UEFA Champions League ambitions sitting just one point ahead of Wolfsburg on fourth. Braunschweig remain on last position with 22 points out of 28 matches.

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg came from behind against Frankfurt as Naldo unleashed a long-range hammer to secure a 2-1 victory for the "Wolves".

Mainz wrapped up three points with a 3-0 triumph over Augsburg to reap the first win after three games and Freiburg ensured a 3-2 win over Nuremberg in a rough see-saw match.

The following matches are scheduled for Sunday: Monchengladbach see struggling Hamburg and Hannover encounter Bremen.
