体坛英语新闻:Ancelotti to keep Bale in attack against Borussia

MADRID, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti will resist the temptation to play Gareth Bale at left back despite an injury to first choice Marcelo, the coach confirmed on Tuesday.

Speaking ahead of his side's Champions League quarter-final first leg at home to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, Ancelotti admitted Marcelo had suffered "a problem" on Monday and that Fabio Coentrao would provide over on the left side of defense.

When asked whether he had considered moving Bale to left back, where this season's star signing began his career, Ancelotti was adamant the Welshman would, "play in attack."

"Bale at left back is not an option," he said, adding that Bale 's slightly erratic form in recent games was "characteristic of an attacker".

Ancelotti also talked about Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been struggling from a knee problem in recent games and who was booed by a section of the Real Madrid fans in the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night for opting to shoot late their 5-0 win over Rayo Vallecano instead of passing to unmarked team-mate Alvaro Morata.

The Real Madrid coach told the press that the striker's knee was "fine" and that the whistling from the famously demanding Real Madrid supporters was "forgotten", saying the whistles were because "he didn't pass the ball to another player; it isn't for any other reason. Cristiano could not have done more this season".

Last season saw Borussia knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League in the semi-finals and although they will be without key players such as Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan, Ancelotti warns they are still a threat.

"They defend well and break very dangerously. We have to show our quality and our ability to find positive solutions. Borussia are very dangerous on the break. We're going to play an attacking game but take a lot of care with their counter-attacks."

"I have experience of the Champions League and in the quarter- finals you have the best teams in Europe. We have to pay attention to every team. It won't be easy for anyone," he said.

Ancelotti was confident that Real Madrid went into the match in good shape after their win at the weekend.

"We'll try to play a game with a lot of intensity to look for attacking solutions. Our objective is to play with intensity and speed. They have players out, but so do we," he concluded.
