体坛英语新闻:All to be decided on final day in La Liga as big three all slip up again

MADRID, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish BBVA Primera Liga title will be decided on the last day of the season when Atletico Madrid visit FC Barcelona's Camp Nou Stadium next Sunday.

A draw for Atletico will be enough for them to lift the title after another weekend in which they, Barcelona and Real Madrid all failed to win.

Atletico were inches away from being crowned champions on Sunday and only an incredible save from Malaga keeper, Willy Caballero denied Adrian Lopez giving his side a 2-1 win over Malaga.

Lopez's shot had looked to be heading for the corner of the net only for the goalkeeper to pull off one of the saves of the year.

Atletico had fallen behind to a 65th minute goal from Samuel, but the shock that rang around the Calderon only lasted 10 minutes before Toby Alderwiereld scored the equalizer.

Barcelona had seen how they had been thrown a lifeline by recent results, but failed to grab hold of it as they could only draw 0-0 away to Elche, who have assured their place in the Primera Liga for next season thanks to the result.

Barcelona once again failed to produce anything special against a well-organized rival, but still have the chance of the title if they beat Atletico next weekend.

Meanwhile Real Madrid are out of the title race after two goals from Celta Vigo striker Charles condemned them to a poor 2-0 defeat in Vigo.

Elsewhere the emphasis was on avoiding relegation. Espanyol assured their place in the top flight for next season with a 1-1 draw at home to Osasuna, who need to win next week and hope results elsewhere favor them in order to avoid relegation.

Almeria are in touching distance of safety after a 2-0 win away to Granada, who must play for their survival away to Valladolid who took the lead three times away to Betis before slipping to a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat thanks to 91st minute goal from Juanfran.

Finally Getafe climbed out of the bottom three thanks to Escudero's 70th minute goal at home to Sevilla.

The Basque derby between Athletic Club Bilbao and Real Sociedad had nothing at stake other than local pride and ended 1-1. Iker Muniain put Athletic ahead early in the second half, but Imanol Agirretxe assured honors were even 15 minutes from the end of an entertaining game.

Saturday saw two more games with little at stake as Villarreal thrashed Rayo Vallecano 4-0 and Levante defeated Valencia to climb above their neighbors in the table.
