体坛英语新闻:Press hightlights Honduras' draw against England
TEGUCIGALPA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Local press on Sunday highlighted the 0-0 warmup between Honduras and England played in Miami, the United States on Saturday and said this lends confidence to the Honduran team towards Brazil 2014 World Cup.
Before the match against England, Honduras lost 2-0 against Turkey and 4-2 against Israel, raising doubts and worries among the fans.
But in the last friendly match before the World Cup, Honduras drew 0-0 against England. Honduran press highlighted the result and commented favorably on the performance of the national team.
"Honduras showed its best side," said local daily El Heraldo, while La Tribuna said "the national team improved."
Meanwhile, La Prensa said "Honduras upsets England and the team will arrive confidently in Brazil," while Tiempo said "the national team showed a slight improvement."
The friendly match against England was also a training session for Brazil, where the Central American team will face France, Switzerland and Ecuador in the tournament's group stage.
Before Brazil 2014, Honduras qualified twice for the World Cup. The first was in Spain 1982, where it scored two goals, and the second was South Africa 2010 where it lost two out of three matches.
