体坛英语新闻：Third division team Chemnitz eliminate Mainz in German Cup

BERLIN, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chemnitz defeated first division side Mainz 10-9 on penalty shoot-out while Leverkusen crushed lower side Waldalgesheim 6-0 at the first round of the DFB Cup on Friday.

The third division side Chemnitz showed a resilient performance against wasteful Mainz to progress surprisingly at the German Cup.

Mainz were on the winning way after 49 minutes when they established a 2-0 lead thanks to Niki Zimling and Shinji Okazaki. Yet, Mainz handed over control allowing Chemnitz to reduce the lead to 2-1 at the 50th minute. It took just another three minutes before Chemnitz made it 2-2.

Mainz recovered from their setback at the 73rd minute as Ja- Cheol Koo gave his side the lead 3-2 advantages. However, his teammate Niko Bungert equalized the scores to 3-3 with an own goal three minutes before the final whistle.

Chemnitz grabbed the lead for the first time at the overtime when Markus Ziereis headed home for 4-3 at the 103rd minute. It was a short-lived joy by the hosts as Mainz levelled the scores just six minutes later through Bungert's header.

However, both sides were not done with the scoring at the overtime as Marco Kehl-Gomez gave his side the 5-4 lead before Mainz' Johannes Geis marked the 5-5 equalizer.

Mainz lost the penalty shoot-out as Gonzalo Jara's shot was saved by Philipp Pentke. Chemnitz converted all their penalties to eliminate Mainz 10-9 from the German Cup.

Elsewhere, Leverkusen made shot shrift of Waldalgesheim as the "Werkself" celebrated a goal festival at their 6-0 victory. Leverkusen's Stefan Kiessling donated five goals within 59 minutes before Heung Min Son marked the final goal in the closing period.

Third division team Duisburg flabbergast harmless second division side Nuremberg 1-0, eliminating the "Club" from the competition.

The other Bundesliga team will step into contest on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
