体坛英语新闻:Seven teams qualify for second round of FIVB women's worlds
BARI, Italy, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Defending champions Russia, the United States and other five teams notched up their third consecutive win on Thursday to qualify for the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championships.
With still two first-round matches left, Russia became the first team to book one of the 16 available tickets for the next round after they defeated Kazakhstan 25-13, 25-21, 25-16 to retain a perfect record after three matches.
Russia have garnered nine points at the head of the table in Pool C and are beyond the reach of either Kazakhstan or Mexico.
The United States reached the second round as well with a 29-21, 25-21, 25-18 over the Netherlands.
World No. 1 Brazil breezed past Canada 25-14, 25-8, 25-18 and will play against Russia and the United States in the next round.
Hosts Italy solidly defeated Argentina 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 to book a spot in the second round.
The Dominican Republic and Germany, also from Pool A like Italy, claimed their next round tickets too.
All three of the qualifiers from Pool A are beyond the reach of both Argentina and Tunisia, who remain winless at the bottom of the table.
China also had their job done as they beat Belgium 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 to become the first team from Pool D to qualify for the second round.
