KIEV, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk qualified for the final 16 of the UEFA Champions League despite losing to Athletic Club Bilbao at Lvov Arena stadium on Tuesday night.

Shakhtar went off to a bright start into the first half as Teixeira came close to scoring in the 7th minute, finding himself one-on-one against Athletic goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz, but his attempt missed the goal.

Nevertheless, things changed 15 minutes into the match with the Spanish side dominating the game and creating goal-scoring opportunities, while Shakhtar trying to put up some resistance against Athletic's attacks.

In the second half, the Ukrainian side was unable to keep Athletic on the distance and Mikel San Jose slotted into the net on the 68th minute after an assist by Benat.

At the end of the match, Shakhtar's Adriano, Fred and Marlos have great chances to equalize, but squandered the opportunities.

The result leaves Shakhtar second in Group H with eight points from five matches, while Portuguese Porto leads the group with 13 points. Both sides secured places in the last 16 of the Champions League due to Porto's win at BATE Borisov in the same day.
