BERLIN, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich eliminated CSKA Moskva with a 3-0 victory on home soil to top Group E in Champions League's group stage on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich progressed into the last 16 of Europe's elite competition by rounding off the group stage with a 3-0 win meanwhile CSKA Moskva will have to focus on domestic business after crashing out.

Bayern's 3-0 victory on home soil seems too high as the Bavarians needed a penalty to open the deadlock before Sebastian Rode and Mario Goetze put the result beyond doubt within six minutes in the closing period.

The visitors from Russia, who needed a win to remain their hopes alive, were able to keep the pace in the first half. However, things changed at the second half as CSKA remained passive allowing Bayern to seal the deal with two quick goals in the dying minutes of the game.

As expected Bayern took reins to let the ball do the work against deep defending visitors. Nevertheless, it were the visitors who threatened the hosts with a header by Seydou Doumbia in the opening period.

After 18 minutes into the encounter referee Olegario Benquerenca awarded Bayern a foul play penalty as Bebars Natcho brought down Franck Ribery inside the box. Thomas Mueller stepped up and converted the penalty successfully into the bottom left.

CSKA remained unimpressed and nearly responded but Seydou Doumbia failed to overcome Manuel Neuer, who cleared with his left foot, in a one-on-one situation from close range moments later.

After the break Bayern started where they left off, they pressed for the second goal whereas CSKA defended deep in their own half. Thus, Arjen Robben and Robert Lewandowski were able to work out promising opportunities. It was either Moskva's goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev, who denied Robben, or the right post, that denied Lewandowski.

However, Bayern were finally able to add another goal to their lead when Sebastian Rode headed home at the far post a pin point cross by Bastian Schweinsteiger with 84 minutes into the game.

Bayern's late 2-0 took the win out of the visitor's sails as the hosts tripled the lead only six minutes later through Mario Goetze, who completed a combination via Lewandowski and Robben with a lob to round off the 3-0 win in front of outsold Allianz Arena.

"I am very proud of my team. We played an outstanding group stage," Bayern coach Josep Guardiola said.

Bayern top the Group E with 15 points, followed by Manchester City with 8 points, Roma with 5 points and CSKA Moskva with 5 points.
