体坛英语新闻:Juventus eliminates Dortmund from UEFA Champions League

BERLIN, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Juventus qualified for the semifinals following a powerful 3-0 victory at Dortmund in UEFA Champions League's second leg of the last 16 on Wednesday.

Carlos Tevez' brace and Alvaro Morata's goal sealed Dortmund's exit at the round of last 16 on home soil. Meanwhile Juve reached the semifinals for the second time in three years.

Juergen Klopp's men never recovered from Juventus' early goal through Tevez, who has large shares on the BVB's highest defeat in the Champions League.

The visitors from Italy caught a bright start on the road as Carlos Tevez shocked the hosts with the opener at the third minute. Dortmund failed to clear the ball from their own territory thus Tevez collected the ball to hammer home from 25 meters into the top left corner.

With the lead 1-0 behind Juventus implemented a fast break strategy due to the fact that Dortmund were unable to gain a foothold into the match as their offence lacked in penetration to threat the visitors defence.

Juventus staged a different performance though as Alvaro Morata worked out two promising opportunities after the restart. Yet, Dortmund's goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller was on guard twice to deny the Italians the second goal of the evening.

Kevin Kampl tested Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon moments later for the first time before the visitors punished the "BVB" for a malfunctioning offside trap at the 70th minute. Tevez made use of a through ball to run up to Weidenfeller before he square passed to Morata, who tapped into the empty net to seal the deal.

Nevertheless, Tevez was not done with the scoring as he crowned his powerful performance with a brace nine minutes later, marking the final 3-0 score.

"We were absolutely harmless and lacked in penetration. Juventus was today clearly better than us. We now have to focus on the Bundesliga," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said after the game.

The draw for the semifinals is scheduled for Friday at UEFA's center of administration in Nyon, Switzerland.
