体坛英语新闻：PSG extend contract with Maxwell until next summer

PARIS, Mar. 19 (Xinhua) -- Defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain announced Thursday to extend a deal with Brazilian defender Maxwell for one more year.

"Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce that Maxwell has signed a one-year contract extension. The Brazil international defender is now tied to the capital club until June 2016," read a statement of the club on its website.

The 33-year-old Brazilian international joined from Barcelona three years ago for a fee of 3.5 million euros and has made 128 appearances in all competitions for PSG since arriving at the Parc des Princes.

He's won both the French top-flight league and the French Super Cup twice in 2013 and 2014, as well as last season's Cup of League with Les Pariens.

"I am very proud of the confidence placed in me by the president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the whole Club. I will continue to give everything to help the club try and reach its objectives," Maxwell told the club's website.

"Maxwell is an exceptional player who has brought so much to this club since he joined us. We are delighted that he has signed on for an extra year with Paris Saint-Germain, which is perfectly normal, given his investment on and off the pitch and the quality of his performances," commented PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The Brazilian also played for some other European leading clubs, such as Ajax Amsterdam and Inter Milan before Barcelona and Paris.
